National Art Education Association (NAEA) conference 2014 - San Diego!
From March 28 - April 1, Miranda, Rebecca and I represented CCU at NAEA 2014. At the conference, they were able to both learn from and network with art education professionals from around the country. The theme of the conference was Spark! Fusing Innovative Teaching & Emerging Technologies. Miranda and Rebecca proposed a session for the student roundtable presentations that was accepted, entitled, "Creating an Online Professional Presence." They created their websites in my Summer I class, Contemporary Issues in Art Education. They were able to practice their national presentation through presenting at the Innovative Teaching and Technology Fair on CCU's campus, October 21, 2013. I assisted them (but they did the work) in obtaining full funding for their trip. Thanks to CCU College of Humanities & Fine Arts; CCU Graduate Student Incentive Grants; and CCU Spadoni College of Education for funding. Our presentation, entitled “Creating an Online Professional Presence,” is on the usefulness of a digital educational portfolio for art teachers. Through the use of free online website builders, we developed websites that include teaching philosophies, emphasis on thematic development of a series of personal artwork, links to a variety of contemporary artists related to the chosen theme, and lesson plans for multiple media based on the theme. Additionally, links are provided for other art educators for relevant museum resources and teacher blogs. Creation of a digital educational portfolio can benefit current educators as well as aspiring educators like ourselves. The benefits of these websites include, but are not limited to: a portal to share ideas, a means to organize educational information and display material in a professional manner. Our educational websites can be viewed at: http://rglindblade.weebly.com/ and http://arteducation9.weebly.com/. We plan to share practical strategies in this presentation.
